History of the Anthony Church
On November 2, 1942, a small group of Christians assembled themselves in the home of Mrs. Ansel Tower, thus, beginning the church of Christ in Anthony, Kansas, U.S.A. A gospel meeting was held by H. R. Atchison of Wellington, Kansas, to help the young congregation start growing. Following the gospel meeting, the church met in the local American Legion building and, for a time, in another building on West Main.

In October 1944, the church purchased a building at 323 North Springfield. There were many souls added to the church in the years which followed. In fact, so many became Christians that it soon became apparent that the building would be too small. On May 27, 1947, the lots upon which the present building exists were purchased. In November of that same year, construction began with many of the members providing the labor. The building was completed in December of 1948 with the first service being held on the 26th of that month. On January 30, 1949, a dedication service was conducted with Bill Thompson of Lufkin, Texas, preaching.

Through the years there has been much growth both numerically and spiritually for the church of Christ in Anthony, Kansas. Also, many improvements to the physical structure have been made, including the Fellowship Building which was constructed in 1985.

The purpose of those original members assembling together as the church (as is ours today) was to re-establish God's plan of salvation and the New Testament order of worship as Jesus Christ taught His apostles and they, in turn, taught it through the inspiration of the Holy Spirit to the first century church. Salvation is secured by the grace of God, but it must be accepted by faith and obedience to the conditions taught in God's word. Thus, upon obedience to these commands, God washes away one's sins and adds him to that same church that Jesus Christ established by shedding His blood on the cross.

Let it always be our goal to worship God in spirit and in truth as it is commanded of us. May our worship to the Lord reflect the examples of worship found in the New Testament church by preaching, teaching, singing (a capella), praying, giving, and by a weekly observance of the Lord's Supper upon the first day of the week. Let us grow in faith, hope, and love as we encourage each other daily in the unity of the body of Christ.
