Thinking Outside the Box
Hardcopy directories, which always need correction before we can even distribute them, really only serve the church and stay within the church. There is no way for that ink to reach out and make a mark on the world. Likewise, scrolling web directories (while extremely valuable to Christians) remain inside the box of church-serving-church. In the case of this project, thinking outside the box means finding a way to use the same data to reach out to pre-Christians, seekers, and visitors. Thinking outside the box means using new technologies to produce innovative new forms that are more effective, not just glossy electronic versions of the print forms. Thinking outside the box means crafting the information into a form that the world is more likely to access and use - a form that even serves a higher function. That's why this directory is a click-through site, providing an individual web page for every congregation and ministry in Kansas. Not just a directory, this site is a mission work of advertising, public relations and outreach on behalf of every ministry listed. So, Kansas Christians, when the word church and the name of your community hit a search engine, may God speed links to your page in this site, to help seekers find you and God, to His glory.
God's Geeks
When you don't have a clue . . . ask those who do. Soon after he started studying web design, Brian assembled a team of consultants from within the Manhattan church, which he calls God's Geeks. Special thanks to Harvard Townsend (Director of CNS at KSU), Rodney Howell (Professor of CIS at KSU), Matt Carter (Cats for Christ campus minister) and Josh McVey (former campus ministry intern) for their invaluable assistance and advice on design concepts. Harvard deserves a special note of credit for stretching Brian to think a bit farther out of the box than he usually would, and so does Rod for his help through early experiments with CSS.     God's geeks - God's glory.     editor@kansaschurch.org
