Kansas Directory of Churches of Christ and Ministries

History of the Directory and Credits The Kansas Directory of Churches of Christ and Ministries was born in the brainstorm of a 1987 meeting of ministers in Hutchinson, who expressed the need for accurate information to help churches and ministers communicate more efficiently. Brian Cobb volunteered and began collecting mailing lists from area churches and from Maude Carpenter Children's Home (then the largest list) in the initial research. The first edition was printed and distributed in 1988. And since 1989, the state directory has provided information on Kansas churches to national directories published by Mac Lynn and Dennis Kelley. Mike Ballard and Willetta Patton, Poplar Ave., edited the 1998-99 editions, giving Brian a much-needed break during a staff shortage at Manhattan. Research continues through mail, phone, and e-mail surveys.
Over the years, the directory has been published by the Walnut and Campbell church in Hutchinson, by David Lewis and the Saint John church, by the Eastwood church in Hutchinson, by the Poplar Ave. church in Wichita, and by the Manhattan church. Since editorial and design work for the online directory and other web sites now consume so much of Brian's time, Maude Carpenter Children's Home agreed in August of 2001 to publish and distribute the hardcopy directory. In a sense, that part of the ministry is returning to where most of the original database started. With deep gratitude, we welcome the staff at MCCH as our publishing partner in this labor of love.
